The world-famous nuptials born to a couple from mali at Africa West, celebrated their first birthday with a small house party.
Halima Cissé and Abdelkader Arby welcomed five girls and four boys, weighing just 0.49 to 1.08 kg, to the Ain Borja clinic in Casablanca, Morocco on May 4 of last year.
Twelve months later, the nine babies miracle workers are thriving and reaching new developmental milestones, his father Arby shared.
“They’re all crawling now. Some are sitting and can even walk if they hold on to something,” he told BBC.
Discussing her experience raising the babies, as well as her three-year-old daughter Souda, Arby said that while “it’s not easy”, it was great to see “all the babies in perfect health, we’re relieved. We forgot everything”.
The couple marked the brothers’ first anniversary with a meeting attended by their neighbors and nurses from the clinic.
The nuptials made history as the most babies who were born in a single birth and survived after being born prematurely by cesarean section after 30 weeks of Cissé’s pregnancy.
The previous world record Guinness World Records was of eight babies, born in 2009, to Nadya Suleman, a resident of California popularly known as “Octomom”.
Before the birth, Cissé and Arby were taken to Morocco by the Malian government so that she could receive specialist medical care. It took a team of more than 30 doctors and paramedics to help the babies be born safely, the clinic said in a statement at the time.
Arby told BBC that the children are still in the care of the clinic where they were born and live in a “hospital apartment” in Casablanca, which belongs to the clinic’s owners.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO ), about 15 million babies are born prematurely each year, the majority in Africa and southern Africa. Asia .
