The annual World Economic Forum in Davos, which was supposed to take place in January, was postponed due to “continuous uncertainty” related to the Ômicron outbreak, the event organizers announced on Monday (20).
“Current pandemic conditions make it extremely difficult to hold a global face-to-face meeting,” the statement said.
Preparations for the Forum were guided by an expert consultancy and had the close collaboration of the Swiss government at all levels.
“Despite the strict health protocols of the meeting, the transferability of Ômicron and its impact on travel and mobility made it necessary to postpone it”, continues the text of the Forum’s organization.
The perspective is that the event will be postponed to the middle of next year, but some digital events should be kept until January.
It will be the second consecutive year that there is no in-person event. Davos was canceled in 2021 and performed over the internet due to the Covid-19 outbreak.
