Victim of feminicide committed by her husband last Sunday (3), Erika Satelis Ferreira de Lima, 33, had registered a police report for threats against military police officer Thiago Cesar de Lima, 36, in October this year.
According to her report at the time, the two fought and Thiago threatened her with a gun. The case was registered at the 4th Women’s Defense Police Station (DDM), the same one that is now investigating Erika’s death.
According to the Public Security Secretariat (SSP), at the time the victim chose not to take criminal action against the soldier and also did not request protective measures.
Erika was shot dead by the police officer in the early hours of Sunday, in the north of São Paulo. The couple were in a car when an argument began. During the fight, the PM threw punches and then shot the woman.
The victim was rescued by the police officer himself, but did not survive his injuries. The murder weapon, a .40 caliber pistol, was seized and the soldier was taken to the Romão Gomes Military Prison. The São Paulo Court ordered his preventive detention this Monday (4).
The São Paulo Police Ombudsman’s Office stated that it has opened a procedure to monitor the case and that, after legal procedures, it will suggest the expulsion of soldier Thiago Cesar de Lima from the ranks of the Military Police.
“Deviations from this order cannot be tolerated, especially when the victims are vulnerable and historically sacrificed groups and the executioner, the one trained and instructed to value and guarantee life”, stated the Ombudsman, professor Claudio Silva.
Note from the Ombudsman in full:
“The São Paulo Police Ombudsman’s Office received information about an act of feminicide, accompanied by videos, in which the perpetrator was a Military Police Officer. An act that, by its simple nature, leaves us appalled and indignant as a society and, as public entities, extremely concerned. The action, which demonstrates a noticeable illness on the part of a public agent who should protect his family and society, pushes us to take a firm and decisive position. We have discussed with the Public Security Secretariat the issue of troop illness, especially mental illness and its harmful consequences in everyday police work. We will open a procedure to monitor the case, request information about the incident from the Civil Police, request necroscopic, ballistic, local and residual reports from the scientific police and contact the Military Police Internal Affairs Department so that, in case the perpetrator is a military police officer, , suggest his expulsion from the corporation’s ranks. Deviations from this order cannot be tolerated, especially when the victims are vulnerable and historically sacrificed groups and the executioner is someone trained and instructed to value and guarantee life.”
