A 28-year-old woman, who was being held in private prison by her ex-partner, 34, in the city of Bom Sucesso, in the western region of the state of Minas Gerais, was rescued by the Civil Police of Minas Gerais (PCMG).
The rescue took place after the Guardianship Council informed the police that the victim’s family was worried since the victim had left her two children at a sister’s house three days earlier and disappeared after that.
The Civil Police Station in Bom Sucesso was already investigating, less than a week ago, a case of domestic violence involving the woman, the two children, and the suspect.
Given the information about the disappearance and the reports of violence, the police went to the rural area of the municipality, where the suspect had a property.
According to police chief Edgar Polo Sardinha, when the PCMG team arrived at the scene, an individual had run out the back and disappeared into the woods. The police entered the suspect’s property and found the woman in one of the rooms. “She was in a state of shock, unable to communicate or answer the questions asked,” said Sardinha.
According to the police chief, the victim was escorted to the police station where she reported to the clerk that she was approached by the suspect while she was going to church and, through death threats to her and her family, was coerced into going to that residence. The woman also reported that she was forced to cook for her ex-partner and prevented from eating, as well as having sexual relations against her will.
According to the police, the woman had obtained a protective order against her ex-partner on August 8, after she and her children were admitted to a hospital with bodily injuries resulting from domestic violence.
Delegate Edgar Sardinha reported that, in addition to the request for protective measures, the PCMG represented the preventive arrest of the suspect. However, given the false imprisonment practiced by the man, a new representation of restriction of freedom of the suspect was forwarded to the Judiciary.
According to the police, investigations are ongoing.
