Woman goes into labor and gives birth on a train in Rio

A 30-year-old woman went into labor and gave birth to a boy, this Wednesday (13), inside a train car. train of the Japeri branch, in Rio de Janeiro . The incident happened around noon, according to the city’s rail transport operator, Supervia.

Images circulating on social media show Elaine, as she was identified, lying on a train bench and surrounded by other passengers. One of them even appears holding the woman’s head, who is holding the child in her lap.

Upon arriving at the Comendador Soares station, the mother and baby received first care from the agents, who called the Fire Department and Mobile Emergency Care Service (Samu), reported Supervia.

“When the train heading to Japeri arrived at the station, passengers came out asking for help for the client who had just given birth. The security team rushed to assist the mother, who was lying on a boy’s lap, hugging the baby and appearing calm and relieved,” said agent Diego Pereira, from the Customer Support Group (GAC).

“I had never experienced this until now. It was very gratifying to be able to provide this support at a special moment like this”, added the employee, who has worked at Supervia for 7 years.

The woman and child were taken to the Mariana Bulhões maternity hospital, in Nova Iguaçu. Also according to Supervia, the mebino was born weighing 3 kgm and 52 cm. Elaine and the baby are doing well.

In a note, the dealership informed that it will send a kit consisting of a diaper, wet wipe, ointment, soap, bib, blanket, bodysuit and swaddle for the mother, who lives in the municipality of Queimados. The package should be delivered to the family this Thursday (14) by the agent who helped Elaine.

A CNN contacted the Mariana Bulhões maternity hospital to find out the status of the mother and baby and is awaiting a response.
