With support from Interpol, SC Civil Police capture fugitive convicted of rape

A man sentenced to 27 years in prison for rape of a vulnerable person was arrested in the city of Rivera, Uruguay, during an operation by the Civil Police of Santa Catarina, with support from Interpol, the Federal Police and Uruguayan authorities.

The individual, who had committed the crime against his 13-year-old stepdaughter, was on the run and was located after monitoring the social networks of people close to him.

According to the Civil Police of Santa Catarina, Interpol was crucial in the capture of the fugitive, which occurred on the morning of August 27.

The convict was found hiding in Rivera, a city on the border with Santana do Livramento, in Rio Grande do Sul.

He was arrested without offering resistance and will be extradited to Brazil, where he will serve his sentence.
