With the agreement, London-based Wirex, which already has over five million customers, will now be able to issue cryptocurrency-enabled Visa debit cards in more than 40 countries.
“Visa wants to provide consumers with more payment options by connecting digital currencies to our system,” explained Matt Wood, Visa Asia Pacific Head of Digital Partnerships.
Wirex and Visa have been working together since 2015. According to Wirex, in 2015 it became the first company in the world to develop a bank card that allowed users to buy and sell cryptocurrencies.
In August, decentralized exchange aggregator 1inch announced a partnership with Wirex. Wirex developers have integrated the 1inch platform API so that Wirex users can exchange purchased tokens faster.
