Willow Smith says he wasn’t intimidated by the media storm that erupted after his father, Will Smith slapped Chris Rock at the 2022 Oscars because she views her “whole family as human”.
The 21-year-old Emmy-nominated singer broke her silence over the controversial incident in a Billboard interview published Friday, saying it didn’t derail her creativity or “shake it up as much as my own inner demons.” .
“I see all of my family as human beings, and I love and accept them for all of their humanity,” she told the publication. “Because of the position we are in, our humanity is sometimes not accepted, and we are expected to act in a way that is not conducive to a healthy human life and is not befitting of honesty.”
At the ceremony in March, Will Smith hit host Rock after the comedian made a joke about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith’s shaved head while presenting the Oscar for best documentary.
Pinkett Smith suffers from hair loss due to the autoimmune condition alopecia.
The “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” star walked off stage and yelled, “Keep my wife’s name out of your mouth” from her seat.
Smith, 53, resigned from the Academy, which banned him from the awards for 10 years.
Last month, after taking a break from social media, Smith said he was “deeply sorry” for his actions in a video posted to his verified Instagram account.
