Who was Cidinha, Silvio Santos’ first wife?

THE presenter Silvio Santos — who passed away this Saturday (17), aged 93 — was married to his first wife Maria Aparecida Vieira known as Cidinha, between the years of 1962 and 1977 .

The telephone operator, who died of stomach cancer at the age of 39, had two daughters with the businessman, Cíntia, 61, and Silvia, 53. The relationship that began in 1962 remained out of the spotlight at first, as the presenter who worked at TV Paulista did not want the women in the audience to lose the “heartthrob” image that he maintained on the stage of the programs.

In the documentary “Silvio Santos – Vale mais do que dinheiro”, the first part of which was shown on SBT this Saturday, the daughters talk about the memories they have of their mother. At the time of her death, the oldest was 13 years old and the youngest was 5.

Maria Aparecida Vieira, Cidinha, met Silvio Santos at her mother’s boarding house, located in the Bexiga neighborhood, in São Paulo, where the presenter lived for a few months.

Cintia, the couple’s first daughter, remembers her moments: “helping my father to record the program, which was live. She would record the program from 11 in the morning until 8 at night with that reel-to-reel tape recorder for him to watch during the week.”

The telephone operator was diagnosed with stomach cancer during routine exams after she felt stomach pain. “They went out to dinner once, he and his friends, and the next day, she wasn’t feeling well in her stomach. She went for an x-ray, came to me and said: ‘I had an x-ray and the guy looked at it like this and said: ‘I hope it’s benign’”, said Júnia Rosa, the presenter’s former secretary.

Silvio Santos sent her to New York, in the United States, for six months of treatment — where her daughters went after a while to keep her company. When she returned, she was weakened by the disease. “I remember him carrying her on his lap to sit at the table to eat. He really took care of my mother,” Cintia said.

At the age of 39, the woman died of cancer. “The day she died, I remember we arrived, it was already the end of the day and my father was exhausted. I arrived, greeted everyone, gave her a kiss, went around and sat on the arm of the chair. I held it and her hand and she died. She waited for me to arrive,” said the eldest daughter, who was 13 at the time.

After Cidinha, the presenter was married to Íris Abravanel — with whom he stayed until the end of his life and had four more daughters: Daniela, Patrícia, Rebeca and Renata. The presenter died at the age of 93 due to bronchopneumonia after infection with Influenza (H1N1).
