The presenter Xuxa Meneghel and her former manager, Marlene Mattos, met again for the first time in 19 years to record an episode of the new Xuxa documentary, which will premiere this Thursday (13). In it, both were able to talk about their frustrations, and the old relationship they had.
“I hit a lot more than I missed, you know? The world is not what you want it to be. We have to act realistically sometimes, you know? You say… you were a puppet in my hand, and I used you to make puppets of other people. And that’s how it is”, declared Mattos during part of the conversation, shown on Sunday (9) on “Fantástico”.
Xuxa already said in an interview with Record in 2015 that the reason for the breakup of the partnership between the two was because she was tired of being controlled “like a puppet”, and being used by the businesswoman.
Who is Marlene Mattos?
Marlene Mattos, 73 years old, moved from Maranhão to Rio de Janeiro while she was still a teenager and, in 1983, she started working at TV Manchete where she met Xuxa and they became great friends. Marlene is even Sasha’s godmother.
Some time later, Mattos became the presenter’s manager and they went to TV Globo, where from 1987 to 1992, Xuxa had her children’s program “Xou da Xuxa” directed by Marlene herself. In addition to production, the businesswoman also directed other programs on the station, such as “Xuxa Park”, “Planeta Xuxa”, “Mais Você” (2001) and “Jovens Tardes” (2002).
In 1993, Mattos was one of those responsible for bringing the star Michael Jackson to Brazil with the “Dangerous Tour”, and already had a net worth estimated at US$ 20 million (approximately R$ 300 million), according to “Folha de S. .Paulo”, in a report from January 2003.
After breaking up with Xuxa in 2003, Marlene opened an agency to manage the careers of other artists and athletes such as former soccer player Kaká, volleyball players Virna and Leila, former BBB Kléber Bambam, among others.
In addition, she was also creative director at Band, and worked in several other news outlets such as: Rádio Globo, Rede TV!, Record, SBT, and TV da Gente.
After the end of the partnership with Xuxa, Marlene stayed away from the spotlight.
