Ohio Senator JD Vance has been announced as Donald Trump’s vice presidential candidate for the 2024 election.
Vance and Trump have traded criticism in the past, but the former president was important for the senator’s election in 2022.
Learn more about Trump’s running mate below.
Who is J. D Vance?

J. D Vance was born and raised in Middletown, Ohio, an industrial town.
He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served in the Iraq War.
Vance graduated from Ohio State University and Yale Law School and wrote a bestselling book, Hillbilly Elegy, which was made into a Netflix film.
The senator entered the US Congress with the help of Trump, whose endorsement helped him win a competitive race in 2022.
Vance criticized Trump in 2016, and six years later, Trump publicly humiliated Vance, even after endorsing him in the 2022 election.
In the Senate, Vance has been an outspoken supporter of Trump and has often voted in loyalty to the former president’s interests. He opposed a Ukraine aid bill earlier this year, embracing Trump’s criticism of providing more aid.
He is also close to Donald Trump Jr. who made a last-minute push for Ohio Sen. J.D. Vance in recent days as his father, former President Donald Trump, wavered over the pick, a source familiar with the matter told CNN .
Vance, a former venture capitalist, veteran and author, was reported to be one of the candidates who received vice presidential vetting materials from the Trump campaign.
