White Lotus spin-off on Jennifer Coolidge’s Tanya coming soon?

In The White Lotus, Jennifer Coolidge gave us an unforgettable Tanya McQuoid, who became the only character from the first season to return in the second, thus solidifying her place in television history. Now, the creator Mike White hinted that there is a “real possibility” of seeing Tanya again in a prequel series dedicated to her.

Very rich and crazy, but undeniably affectionate, viewers met Tanya in the first season, when she took refuge in the Hawaii for a holiday of reflection after the death of his mother. Tanya’s life had an operatic epilogue in the second season, set in Sicily, when – spoiler alert! of her-of her died while fleeing a yacht, after realizing that her new husband was trying to have her killed. Coolidge was one of the strong points of this darkly comic series. She is owed some of her most hilarious and heartbreaking moments that have earned her Golden Globe, Critics’ Choice and Emmy awards.

Coolidge and Mike White, creator, writer and director of the series, were recently in Australia for the Sydney Film Festival. Speaking at the event, White revealed that despite her untimely end, it’s not out of the question that viewers could see Tanya again. As reported by Deadlineswhen asked about a possible prequel series, White would have replied: «Yes, I think it is completely possible, we were just talking about it… It’s a fun idea. And making Jennifer look 20 years younger would be fun, too. I imagine you would be in favour.’

The comments come after the stellar success of Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, spin-off series that delves into the life of the beloved monarch. A resounding success that has garnered critical acclaim and conquered the top of the streaming charts Netflix after receiving more than 148 million watch hours globally in its first week on the platform.

In the meantime, The White Lotushas already been greenlit for a third season, which will likely be set in Thailand (confirming the tradition of the series to transfer the fictitious ultra-luxury resort chain to different locations). At the Sydney Film Festival, White declared that Australia is also a planned location for a future series, specifying: «My dream would be to touch all continents, so yes… If we continue we will have to come to Australia. That would be a lot of fun. Here, we know, there is an enormous wealth of talent and the beauty is indisputable, so it seems to me that it has all the right things». “Australia has my vote,” Coolidge added.

White also recently hinted at a potential “all-stars” season, which would see the return of several characters from previous seasons, which so far have included the likes of Murray Bartlett, Sydney Sweeney, Natasha Rothwell, Theo James And Aubrey Plaza.
