The killing by Hamas of the six hostages found dead Sunday by Israeli soldiers in the Gaza Strip underscores the urgent need to reach a peace deal for a ceasefire and the release of the remaining captives, the White House said today. “Certainly, what happened over the weekend underscores how important it is to reach (an agreement) as quickly as possible,” said White House National Security Council spokesman John Kirby. He added that Hamas was responsible for the deaths of the hostages. Kirby said Washington was working on a proposal that would lead to the release of the remaining hostages and would include an end to the fighting and significant humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza.
