Where do chefs eat? With Walkyria Fagundes and Ygor Lopes, from Ae! Kitchen in Sao Paulo

It is in a charming townhouse in Vila Mariana that the couple Walkyria Fagundes and Ygor Lopes serves its tasty creations. With an intimate atmosphere, in the place works the AE! Kitchen a lean and seasonal restaurant that has been welcoming diners since 2019.

Despite being young, the two carry an extensive baggage of experiences in starred houses in Brazil and around the world.

Graduated in Sao Paulo the pastry chef took flight and specialized in confectionery at ICIF in Italy and at Le Cordon Bleu in Spain, where she also visited the Westin Palace hotel in Madridand by the Nerua and Quique Dacosta restaurants.

Chef Ygor Lopes also studied gastronomy here and has stints in starring Nerua and Quique Dacosta, in addition to the DOM

But it was at the extinct Epice, a restaurant that came to be run by Alberto Landgraf in São Paulo, that the two met and, some time later, started a romance.

Today, in addition to the business they run, the couple’s gastronomic outings are also concentrated in Vila Mariana, a neighborhood in the south-central region of the capital that has the chefs’ favorite restaurants.

It’s where we like to have coffee on Sundays. At the her coffeewe usually order sourdough bread on the griddle with curd, hot mix, and a piece of carrot cake.

Among the drinks, our orders are based on strained coffee and coffee with milk.

BREADing & Co.

To have breakfast at home, we can’t live without bread anymore. BREADing & Co, artisanal bakery in Vila Mariana that works with natural fermentation. The weekly batches contain different types, such as rustic, multigrain, ciabatta, baguette, among others.

The only problem is that whenever we go to buy our bread we have to fight the temptation of croissants and focaccia.

Parrillada Fuego Celeste

We don’t usually eat a lot of meat, but when we feel like it, we like to go to the Celestial Firea Uruguayan steakhouse next to the house and AE!.

What I, Walkyria, like most at home are the artisanal empanadas (R$14.90) and the spicy morcilla (R$22.90). Ygor loves the Uruguayan dulce de leche pancake with ice cream (R$24).

In the middle of the afternoon, between one service and another, we sneak out to have a coffee at the Astronaut Coffee.

Also in Vila Mariana, the coffee shop does its own roasting and works only with specialty coffees, a practice that consequently supports family farming and small producers.

Among the filtered coffees there are the specials (R$ 10), microlots (R$ 12) and nanolots (R$ 15).

Walnuts Ice Cream

Also between one service and another we like to go to the Walnuts to have an ice cream and a cookie.

The unit in Vila Mariana works with artisanal ice cream made every day, including vegan ice cream, milkshakes and homemade cookies and coffee.
