Where do chefs eat? With Thiago Castanho, in New York

One of those responsible for spreading Pará cuisine throughout Brazil, Thiago Castanho has in its DNA the teachings of Amazon rainforest and adds work in restaurants Remanso do Peixe already an institution in Belém, and in Sororoca Bar in Sao Paulo.

  • Stele

Estela was one of the best places I ate on the trip. The food arrives with a lot of flavor and is incredibly simple. All this in an environment where everyone feels comfortable.

The restaurant has a Michelin star and the chef Ignacio Mattos serves contemporary American cuisine.

  • Russ & Daughters

Russ and Daughters store in New York

Russ & Daughters has more than a century of history in New York, as it all began in 1914 with a Jewish immigrant from Poland.

Today there are a few addresses spread across the city, but the one I chose was the 34th Street location, not far from The Vessel building. The restaurant serves snacks and Jewish cuisine, as well as all the side dishes to be enjoyed alongside bagels. The menu also has nosheswhich are snacks, such as smoked salmon nosh.

  • Luke's Lobster

With almost a dozen stores spread across New York, Luke's Lobster is a chain focused on seafood. It's a good place for a variety of sandwiches, such as lobster rolls, crab and shrimp, as well as seafood chowder and lobster bisque.

It is worth mentioning that the chain also has units in Miami, Chicago, Las Vegas and San Francisco.

  • Momofuku

Dishes from Momofuku, New York

Momofuku was one of the first restaurants to be part of a change in contemporary gastronomy in general, with the simplification of the restaurant model with a bar feel, in a more relaxed atmosphere. All this without ceasing to be a restaurant with a lot of technique in the kitchen.

Momofuku Noodle Bar is located in the East Village, with a location also in Uptown, and serves rolls, buns and different ramens.

  • Saraghina Restaurant

The owners of this house on the Lower East Side are the same people who ran the star-studded Contra, a New York restaurant that was already aiming for contemporary cuisine. At Wildair, the modern approach continues and the lean menu includes crudo, tartare, stuffed olives and wagyu.

The atmosphere is relaxed and the wine list focuses on natural, organic and biodynamic labels.

  • Le Bernardin

Le Bernardin is already a fish and seafood institution in New York, with a super sophisticated ambience and service.

The French chef Eric Ripert runs the restaurant, which is located close to Seventh Avenue, and supports its three Michelin stars and its position as the best restaurant in the world with tasting menus of varying times that follow different stages of cooking, such as “almost raw” fish and seafood until the “lightly cooked” ones. There is also a vegetarian menu and the pairings are among the best in the city.

  • Chelsea Market

For those who love a gastronomic market, Chelsea Market fulfills its mission well. It is located in the Meatpacking District in a factory building and houses various stores and restaurants, with aisles full of sausages, cheeses, cuts of meat, fish and seafood.

One of the best-known places here is Lobster Place, which focuses on lobster.

  • Katz's Deli

Katz's Pastrami Sandwich

When it comes to pastrami sandwiches, Katz's Deli is the answer in New York. Opened in 1888, it is simply the oldest operating deli in the city and is located on the Lower East Side.

Very traditional and typically American, both in terms of service and decoration, the house is open 24 hours a day on weekends. In addition to pastrami, there are also brisket, turkey, fries and cheesecake sandwiches.

In the East Village region, Amor y Amargo is considered the first house in the United States completely dedicated to the appreciation of bitters and amaros. Opened in 2011 by the restaurateur Ravi DeRossi the place is small but has an inventive cocktail list and one of the most respected bitters collections on the continent.

The cool thing is that the venture includes a bitters store, which also sells products online.
