Where do chefs eat? With Matheus Ramos, from QT Pizza Bar, in Naples

Matheus Ramos He left Rio de Janeiro for São Paulo and today runs one of the hottest pizzerias in the capital of São Paulo. An advertiser by training, the carioca is the name behind the QT Pizza Bar a pizzeria in the Cerqueira César region chosen this year as 38th best in the world by the prestigious ranking 50 Top Pizza World 2024 .

The same award gave Matheus the title of “Pizzaiolo of the Year”. And it doesn’t stop there: the professional was still in 56th place among the 100 best pizza makers in the world according to The Best Pizza Top100, which lists the best professionals in the sector and works as an arm of The Best Chef Awards.

With so many attributes – and a lot of work –, Matheus still takes time to try other flavors around the capital of São Paulo, as you read in this link, but he also goes in search of other flavors around the world. To get a taste straight from the source, the chef was recently in Naples, Italy, considered the birthplace of pizza.

Originality, mass, coverage and service were some of the criteria evaluated by the professional to put together a list of his favorite houses.

Below, check out Matheus Ramos’ favorite places to eat authentic Neapolitan pizza in and around Naples:

Diego Vitagliano Pizzeria

Pizza from Diego Vitagliano Pizzerie

In addition to Diego Vitagliano Being an extremely kind and polite person, in my opinion, your pizzas are the best. That’s because the dough is exactly as it should be: soft and crunchy. It’s no surprise that it was voted the second best pizzeria in the world in the 50 Top Pizza World 2024.

The toppings are very creative and anyone who orders any pizza with grilled mayonnaise will be surprised.

It’s worth an extra note for the starters, which are perfectly fried. The service, especially at the Bagnoli unit, is unrealistically good. There are three units in Naples, with Santa Lucia being the closest to the center.

Pizzeria I Masanielli

Pizza from I Masanielli, in Naples

THE I Masanielli It’s the biggest pizza laboratory I’ve ever seen. The toppings are made with just one type of ingredient, as is the case of “Assoluto di Pomodoro”, a pizza that, as the name suggests, uses the most different tomato-based preparations. It’s enough to leave anyone’s jaw dropped.

The tasting menu is also something we should order at least once in our lives, as it is a sample of what goes on in the chef’s head. Francesco Martucci . The pizzeria is located in Caserta, a 30-minute drive from Naples or an hour by public transport.

Pizzeria I Masanielli: Viale Giulio Douhet, 11, 81100 Caserta CE, Italy / Opening hours: Tuesday and Wednesday, from 7pm to midnight; Thursday to Saturday, from 12:20 pm to 3:00 pm and from 7:00 pm to midnight; Sunday, from 7pm to midnight; closed on Mondays.

Pepe in Grani

Pizza from Pepe in Grani, in Naples

THE Pepe in Grani It has an absurdly beautiful atmosphere, with good service and an attentive chef who visits the tables. The flavors will surprise anyone.

The pizzas are excellent and the tasting menu is based on ingredients from the Caiazzo region, an hour from Naples by car or just over two hours by public transport.

Pepe in Grani: Vico S.Giovanni Battista, 3, 81013 – Caiazzo CE, Italy / Opening hours: Tuesday to Saturday, from 6:30 pm to 0:30 am; Sunday, from 12:30 pm to 4:00 pm and from 6:45 pm to 0:30 am.

Pizzeria Salvo

THE Pizzeria Salvo from the pizza maker Salvatore Salvo has fast service and extremely correct pizza. The house has a round house that I would say is the most classic Neapolitan when compared to the other houses on the list. Without a doubt, it’s worth the visit.

Pizzeria Salvo: Riviera di Chiaia, 271, 80121 Naples NA, Italy / Opening hours: every day, from 12:30 pm to 3:30 pm and from 7:00 pm to midnight.

Always with a huge queue, the pizzeria Vincenzo Capuano one of the most famous pizza chefs on Instagram, is really delicious. The pizza has a very high edge and a very soft dough.

There are two units in Naples, as well as one in Milan and one scheduled to open in Rome.

Vincenzo Capuano (Pizza Vittoria): Piazza Vittoria, 8, 80121 Naples NA, Italy / Opening hours: Monday to Friday, from 12pm to 4pm and from 7pm to midnight; Saturday from 12pm to 4pm and from 7pm to 1am; Sunday, from 12pm to 4pm and from 7pm to 00:30am.

50 Kalò

Just like at Pizzeria Salvo, I know exactly what I’m going to find in 50 Kalò . Despite the service, it is one of the hottest in the city and has top-notch ingredients.

My tip is to order the Provola and Patate pizza: you won’t regret it. The pizzeria is in the Top 10 of the 50 best pizzerias in the world, ranking 9th in the 50 Top Pizza World 2024.

50 Kalò: Piazza della Repubblica, 2, 80122 Naples NA, Italy / Opening hours: every day, from 12:30 pm to 4:00 pm and from 7:30 pm to midnight.
