What is the real story of Pinocchio? Tale is even darker

One of the most popular children's stories, thanks to the version released by Disney, Pinocchio It has a very dark side to its true tale. Written by Italian Carlo Collodi In 1883, the character's original comic strips were published in the newspaper “II Giornale per i Bambini”.

Known for being a wooden doll, created by Geppetto which comes to life after the visit of Blue Fairy Pinocchio became a reference due to the growth of his nose with each lie told.

At the time it was written, the story had a slightly darker tone, which exactly reflected the reality of Italy. Presented in the films as a kind old man, Geppetto suffered from financial difficulties and could be seen as cruel in his treatment of children.

When he receives a piece of wood, he decides to carve it and transform it into Pinocchio, with the intention of having a truly kind son.

However, as soon as the doll comes to life, the craftsman immediately regrets it, as the wooden boy behaves completely disrespectfully.

Just like in the Disney version, Pinocchio counts on the friendship of the Jiminy Cricket — which doesn't last long, as the character from the original story ends up crushing the insect with a hammer.

Extremely rebellious, Pinocchio had a habit of stealing books from Geppetto, not caring about the fact that he had worked hard to buy them.

After subtracting the objects, the character sold them, with the intention of buying tickets for a puppet show.

However, when he has the money in hand, Pinocchio ends up being robbed and, trying to escape, dies. tragically . This was the first ending written by Collodi, which was heavily criticized at the time.

Given this, the author decided to write a new ending, adding the Blue Fairy to the story. She was responsible for bring the doll back to life.

However, even though he had a new chance, Pinocchio did not learn his lesson and continued trying to take advantage of people and situations.

This time he decides to escape to the Toy Country , where no child needs to study. However, upon arriving there, due to lack of knowledge, he turns into a donkey and gets involved in a new situation that results in his death.

But, to the reader's surprise, Pinocchio discovers that it was all a dream , created by the Blue Fairy to teach him a lesson. As soon as he wakes up, the character discovers that he is no longer a wooden doll, but a real child.
