What is the benefit to the electricity bill of the new grant?

Of Thanks to Floudopoulos

The subsidies announced by the Prime Minister last Saturday come to cover a significant part of the increases in electricity for most consumers.

The ones that are most covered are the small and medium consumption, which will be called upon to pay small increases, while the higher the consumption, however, the bigger the increase in the bill.

But what exactly is the benefit of the new grant? Indicatively for an invoice in which the competitive charge is 11 cents / kilowatt hour and the system limit value clause is another 20 cents, there is a total price of 31 cents / kilowatt hour, with the subsidy covering 16.5 cents / kilowatt hour for the first 300 kilowatt hours.

For example, in a monthly consumption of 300 kilowatt hours, the subsidy covers all kilowatt hours in the amount of 49.5 euros. This means that instead of 93 euros the consumer will pay 43.5 euros.

For a monthly consumption of 375 kilowatt hours (1500 kilowatt hours in four months) the subsidy covers the first 300 kilowatt hours with the amount of 49.5 euros. So instead of 116.2 euros, the consumer will pay 66.75 euros.

For a monthly consumption of 500 kilowatt hours (2000 kilowatt hours in four months, the subsidy also covers the first 300 kilowatt hours with the amount of 49.5 euros, which means that instead of 155 euros the consumer will pay 105.5 euros.

The subsidy of 49.5 euros / month is expected to be valid for the month of December, while for the November accounts the subsidy was at 39 euros / month. For January consumption, it has not yet been clarified which policy will be implemented.

However, based on the announcements made by the Prime Minister, the possibility of creating an automatic mechanism that will concern specific more vulnerable population groups is removed and the most probable scenario is to continue the policy of horizontal subsidy of all consumers.

In any case, it is clear from the market picture but also from analysts’ estimates that high electricity prices will remain at least for the first quarter of 2022.
