What are the impacts of the decision that limits mandatory health insurance coverage

Most ministers of the Superior Court of Justice (STJ) concluded on the 8th that, with exceptions, the list of mandatory coverage procedures for health plans should only be that provided for in the list established by the National Supplementary Health Agency (ANS). ). The list includes more than 3,000 items, but new or experimental drugs and procedures are left out.

The result of the trial was met with criticism by patient associations and consumer protection bodies, which point to the risk of thousands of people losing access to treatments not included in the ANS list. Health plans argue that the list is constantly updated and that no country in the world provides unlimited coverage.

In this episode of E Tem Mais, Carol Nogueira presents an assessment of the reactions and impacts of the STJ’s decision. To discuss the possible consequences and doubts arising from the trial, the lawyer Vanessa Ziotti, who is the mother of autistic triplets and director of Instituto Lagarta Vira Pupa, and the executive director of FenaSaúde (National Federation of Supplementary Health), which brings together health plan operators in Brazil.
