“The intrigues of Western countries, whose dominance is diminishing, are largely responsible for throwing the world into turmoil,” Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said in an interview with Russia’s official news agency on Thursday. (28).
Lavrov stated that no one in the entire world can be sure that they will emerge unscathed from what he calls “Western machinations” in 2024.
Russia has attributed an expansion attempt to Western powers, which would serve to impose defeats on Moscow and give NATO more power. The war in Ukraine, for example, is described as an existential struggle against the “collective West” bent on expanding NATO’s reach.
“The storms continue in the world, and one of the reasons is that the ruling circles of the West provoke crises thousands of kilometers from their borders to solve their own problems at the expense of other peoples,” Lavrov said, in excerpts of the interview released ahead of publication complete.
“It can be said that, given the conditions in which the West is clinging to the domination that eludes it, no one is protected from its geopolitical intrigues. There is a growing understanding of this,” he added.
Moscow has come to blame the West for much of the turmoil and conflict in widely separated regions. He also attributes the outbreak of conflict in the Middle East to what he calls the result of long-standing failures of United States foreign policy. Russia defends the establishment of a Palestinian state.
In his comments, Lavrov called for a de-escalation of the conflict in the Middle East, denouncing acts of terror and “collective punishment” as “unacceptable”.
