in interview to CNN this Friday (11), economist Aod Cunha highlighted that the uncertainties about the Transition PEC and the government’s next economic team add to the fiscal risk that can be generated by leaving the Family Scholarship outside the spending ceiling.
“With this maneuver, an additional expense opens up within the ceiling, and we do not know what the fiscal rule will be for next year”, he pointed out.
“Therefore, there is a sum of uncertainties, in addition to the uncertainty itself about who will be the next economic team, which brings a real concern from the fiscal point of view”, he added.
According to him, the current scenario that president-elect Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) will face is different from what the politician experienced when he assumed the presidency at the beginning of the century.
The economist pointed out that the global challenges of a world with less economic growth and annual records of fiscal deficits by Brazil force the elected government to be faster in determining its economic policies.
“Everyone wants to know how it will work in practice. What will be the fiscal rule, the economic team, how much will be effectively placed outside the spending ceiling. It is these responses that will end up reassuring the market,” he said.
