We articulated multilateral consensus at COP26, says Environment Minister

The Environment Minister, Joaquim Leite, said this Friday (12) during COP26, the 26th United Nations Conference on Climate Change, in Glasgow, Scotland, that Brazil articulated a multilateral consensus during the conference. He spoke during a press conference at the event, which should end between today and tomorrow.

“It was hard work and 24 very important meetings [durante a COP] with several countries. We just had a very important meeting today. There are still some steps to be taken by some countries. Brazil’s role was that of an articulator, seeking multilateral consensus on important issues such as climate financing, which should come in the same proportion as emissions reductions,” said the minister.

For the minister, the resources for financing must accompany “in the same proportion” the actions to reduce emissions. “Mitigation has to be linked to robust financing,” he said.
