We are legend, the protagonists of the Rai teen series that you don’t expect speak (from the Mare Fuori team)

We are legend it’s a coming of age made in Italy but very different from what we have seen so far. Directed by Carmine Elia, arrives on November 22nd on Rai Duethen on RaiPlay and Prime Video, with a cast that unites two generations of artists, comparing adults such as Lino Guanciale and Claudia Pandolfi with the young Emanuele Di Stefano, Nicolas Maupas and Giacomo Giorgio (Sea Outside), just to name a few.

The series revolves around the events of five unusual teenagers. Or rather: the problems are those of their peers, of teenagers all over the world, but they have an edge. Each of them is endowed with a power that arises from a traumatic event or a particular event in life.

Don’t imagine something similar to the British gem Misfitshowever: here are the protagonists of We are legend they don’t perform heroic missions or save the world.

Emanuele Di Stefano (Massimo) is the first story to be told: he has greater responsibilities than any of his peers but the anger at the inevitable injustice in life makes him ready to take back what was taken from him.

The cast, who presented the project for the first time to Giffoni children’s festival, returns to talk about this experiment. More than a bet, it now seems like a certainty, after months of waiting. Here then, a few days after the broadcast, the very young actors return to talk about the project signed by Carmine Elia (Sea Outside).

There are many similarities with the teen prison drama (apart, obviously, from the context of the juvenile penitentiary): «With Sea Outside – explains the director – We are legend has the matrix of growth in common, even if in different situations. Even there, as here, there is unawareness.”

And this is the key to the story about five friends dealing with different experiences, often linked to unexpected powers. In the pilot episode, the abilities of two of them are revealed, including Massimo.

Emanuele Di Stefano echoes him: «I play Massimo – he says – a boy who has not yet answered many questions about growing up. He is disoriented, scared, he doesn’t know which path to take… at the beginning his mother dies, the person who is his anchor, the one who always taught him to lower his head, but when she passes away he has to find the way to stay on world”.

Giacomo Giorgio instead lends his face to «Nicola, the boy next door, with a family that loves each other.” But when the Campanian artist is asked if he wants to distance himself from Sea Outside to differentiate the projects he responds with a laugh: «What I don’t understand as an actor is why I have to distance myself from Sea Outside. If something went well I’m happy that people on the street feel affection for a job I put so much effort into.”

Here too we find another well-known face from the series set in Nisida prison, Nicolas Maupas: «With Jean for the first time I made use of my being bilingual. He wants to be alone, he does not accept parental advice, but he must come to understand that he must listen, because the world does not revolve around his words. But he has Greta, his best friend, as his point of reference. As the story progresses we will see that the protagonists will form a musical group, an important choice for everyone.” Even in this case his alter ego carries a heavy emotional load. And to think that he had asked Carmine Elia for something lighter. Nothing to do, from the first day on set they asked him to cry profusely.
