Washington’s partners are preparing their response ahead of Trump’s new duties announcement

The United States’ financial partners are preparing their response ahead of tomorrow’s announcement of new duties by Donald Trump who promises to be “good”, leaving doubt about the dimensions of this new phase of his trade war. “We do not necessarily want to take retaliation measures,” but “we have a solid plan to do so if necessary,” European Commission President Ursula von der Laien warned. “Our countermeasures have been costly and analyzed: for example, how we would react to a 10% duty or how we would react to a 25% duty,” summed Taiwan Kuo-Huy’s Minister of Finance. “All scenarios have been analyzed and evaluated to find the right answers.” Some are testing the soothing hoping that they will be excluded, such as Vietnam, which has announced duties reduction in a number of products.
