War on Israel: The UN Security Council convenes at midnight on Tuesday – The two draft resolutions to be tabled

The security Council of UN will meet today at 22:00 GMT (01:00 tomorrow Tuesday, Greek time) for the conflict between Israel and Hamas, the United Nations confirmed, with diplomatic sources speaking of two different draft resolutions.

Russia on Friday distributed to the rest of the Security Council member states a draft resolution that will be put to a vote and calls for “an immediate sustainable humanitarian ceasefire that will be fully respected” and for “unimpeded” humanitarian access to the besieged Gaza Strip, according to these sources.

Brazil, which presides this month of the Council, will also submit a text that condemns ‘heinous terrorist attacks by Hamas’also according to diplomatic sources.

The text proposed by Moscow and seen by AFP over the weekend condemned “strongly all violence and hostilities against civilians and all acts of terrorism”.

But until yesterday, Sunday, the draft resolution did not mention Hamas, while the United States mainly insisted that the Security Council clearly condemn the “abhorrent acts of terrorism” of the Palestinian Islamic system that launched on October 7 an attack of unprecedented scale against Israel.

To be adopted, a resolution needs the approval of at least nine of the Council’s 15 members, without a veto by one of the five permanent members (the United States, Britain, France, Russia and China).
