War in Ukraine: Ukrainian forces hold positions in Russia’s Kursk region, Zelensky says

Russian forces attempted to push Ukrainian troops out of their positions in the Russian border region of Kursk, but Ukrainian forces are holding their positions, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said this evening. “Regarding the operation in Kursk, Russia tried to push our forces out of their positions, but we are holding the established lines,” Zelensky said in his daily evening video message since the beginning of the Russian invasion. Russia’s Defense Ministry announced Friday that Russian forces have recaptured two villages in Kursk, where Ukrainian troops launched a massive invasion in August. Zelensky acknowledged that the Ukrainian advance on Kursk was intended to keep Russian troops away from front-line positions in eastern Ukraine, where Russian forces have been making steady territorial gains in recent months.
