War in Ukraine: The Ukrainian prime minister warns of a migrant tsunami

Ukrainian Prime Minister Denis Smykhal is calling for more weapons and warning of a “migration tsunami” if Russian troops continue to deliberately destroy civilian infrastructure.

“They want to deprive our population of electricity, water and heating in winter,” he tells the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung. “They want to plunge Ukraine into a humanitarian disaster and destabilize our society to achieve two goals: First, they have the illusion that our society will push us to surrender. Secondly, they want a new refugee crisis in the EU. Because if there is no more electricity, heating or water in Ukraine, this can cause a new migrant tsunami.”

Above all, Ukraine needs air defense, he said. Germany had supplied the IRIS-T system, which had already saved “many, many lives”, particularly in the Kiev region. Ukraine is eagerly awaiting the next delivery of ammunition and the next system. “It’s literally a matter of days. The Russians use twenty to thirty Iranian kamikaze drones against us every day.” Therefore, Ukraine also needs special defensive means, such as jammers.
