War in Ukraine: Kyiv expresses fears of worsening situation in Mariupol

Kyiv fears a worsening of the situation in Mariupol and eastern Ukraine, following Moscow’s announcement on Friday that it would “focus on its efforts to liberate Donbass,” said an adviser to the Ukrainian presidency.

The announcement could lead to a “deterioration” of the situation around Mariupol, a strategic port in the southeastern part of the country that has been under siege since late February and in the whole of Donbass, Oleksiy Arestovic said.

According to him, this announcement allows Ukrainians to hope that they can “chase the enemy” from the regions of Kiev, Chernihiv (north), Sumy (northeast) and Kharkiv (east) and announce in the coming weeks. “Victories and counterattacks”.

On the contrary, “on some front lines, especially in the east, the situation is far from simple. “We must be psychologically ready for this and in terms of organization,” he stressed.

The French Foreign Minister said today that there would be a “collective guilt” if nothing is done to help the civilians in Mariupol, this city in Ukraine which is surrounded by Russian forces.

This statement was made by Jean-Yves Le Drian speaking at the Doha International Forum.
