A Russian missile strike on an apartment building killed at least eight people and injured 21 others today in the eastern Ukrainian city of Sloviansk, the local governor said.
According to the latest count, eight people were killed and 21 wounded, Pavlo Kirilenko announced speaking on Ukrainian television
“At 6:00 p.m. local time, we had five dead and 15 wounded,” the governor of the Donetsk region had initially stated on Telegram, warning that “seven people, including a child, may be under the rubble.”
Shortly after, Daria Zarivna, an adviser to President Volodymyr Zelensky, announced that a two-year-old child who had been pulled from the rubble later died while in an ambulance, raising the death toll to six.
The city of Sloviansk is located in a part of the Donetsk region under Ukrainian control, 45 kilometers northwest of Bakhmut, close to Russian-controlled territory.
President Zelensky accused Russia of barbarically bombing residential buildings and killing people in broad daylight.
In a statement, the Donetsk regional prosecutor’s office said it had launched a preliminary investigation as part of criminal proceedings for violating the laws and customs of war.
