Preceded the extraordinary meeting, over an hour, with the president of the Palestinian Authority, Mahmoud Abbas, during his extraordinary visit to the West Bank.
The two of them, as Sky News reports, did not address the media. A spokesman for Mr. Abbas said the Palestinian Authority president had told Mr. Blinken that there must be “immediate ceasefire” and humanitarian aid flow to Gaza.
The US has refused to call for such a truce. We remind you that last Saturday Blinken stated that a ceasefire would allow Hamas to regroup.
It was the first time the US secretary of state had visited the occupied West Bank since the start of the war on October 7, triggered by a bloody attack by Hamas on Israeli soil, following several visits to Israel and Jordan.
Blinken reaffirmed the country’s commitment to providing vital aid and resuming essential services in Gaza, according to State Department spokesman Matthew Miller. He also made it clear that Palestinians should not be forcibly displaced.
