The American band Green Day decided to embark on a joke that has lasted 20 years and published, this Sunday (1st), a video of vocalist Billie Joe Armstrong waking up.
The post on social media is a reference to the group’s hit “Wake Me Up When September Ends”, a single from the album “American Idiot”, released in September 2004. See the video below.

The video shows Billie Joe waking up to the sound of a guitar riff and looking at a calendar with the date October 24th highlighted.
The publication raised speculation from fans in the comments about the possibility of a single release or announcement of a new album by the band. A CNN contacted the band’s production team about the publication and is awaiting feedback.
Green Day has not released an album since “Father of All Motherfuckers” (2020). Last year, the pop punk trio came to Brazil as one of the main attractions of Rock in Rio.
Last month, the band released a “deluxe” version to celebrate the 30th anniversary of their famous album “Dookie”, responsible for the group’s first major commercial successes, such as the songs “Basket Case”, “When I Come Around” and “She ”.
“Wake Me Up When September Ends”
Despite being used annually as a joke with Billie Joe, the song “Wake Me Up When September Ends” has a non-festive background.
The ballad was composed about the death of the singer’s father, who died of esophageal cancer when he was 10 years old, in 1982.
The song was supposed to appear on the band’s album “Shenanigans” in 2002, but the singer was not emotionally prepared to record it at that time, saving it for the 2004 album.
In an interview with American anchor Howard Stern’s radio program in 2019, Billie Joe recalled the episode from her childhood.
“I think your mom or someone told you, ‘Hey, come here, get out of the room.’ And you were so devastated about losing your father, and you just said, ‘Wake me up when September is over.’ Did you actually write that or was it something that stayed with you?” asked Stern.
“I think it was something that just stuck with me. September being that anniversary sucks. It’s strange because when things like that happen to you so young, it’s like life starts in year 0 all over again”, replied the vocalist.
