Volodymyr Zelensky: Thank you Turkey – The whole world needs us to succeed

Its president Ukrainian, Volodymyr Zelenskyin his night sermon, thanked her Turkey for her role in the talks with Russia and the UN in order that to “open” again the maritime corridors in the Black Sea that will facilitate the export of Ukrainian grain.

“You will see the many reports in the media about the meeting in Turkey regarding the unblocking of agricultural exports from our country through the Black Sea. Indeed, we are making significant efforts to reset the food supply chain on a global scale. I thank the United Nations and Turkey for their initiatives. It is necessary that it succeeds (the negotiation) not only for our own state, but without exaggeration for the whole world”the Ukrainian leader characteristically argued and continued:

“If we succeed in removing the Russian threat from the Black Sea, we will also remove the threat of the food crisis from the entire world. The Ukrainian mission informed me that progress has been made and we will agree on the details with the UN Secretary General (António Guterres) in the next few days.”.

For his part, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres welcomed the progress made at the Istanbul meeting aimed at resuming Ukrainian grain exports blocked by Russia amid global concern about a food crisis.

More than 20 million tons of Ukrainian grain are stuck in silos in the port of Odessa, where dozens of ships remain at anchor, due to the Russian blockade.

“An important and essential step has been taken, a step towards a comprehensive agreement”, said Mr. Guterres. Ukraine and Russia have shown that they can talk, but “for peace we still have a long way to go”the UN secretary general told reporters in New York.

The agreement in principle on the issue was announced by the Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akarwho said that the details will be determined next week when the final text is signed.

The agreement will provide for the creation of “safe corridors” in the Black Sea for the transfer of grain from Ukrainian ports, as well as a coordination center for these operations with the participation of representatives from both the Russian and Ukrainian sides.

The Istanbul meeting was attended by military experts from Turkey, Russia and Ukraine, in the presence of representatives of the United Nations. The talks lasted about 3.5 hours.

The other issue Zelensky addressed was the push by Ukraine and its allies to have Russia tried for war crimes at the International Court of Justice in The Hague.

Today in the news there are many references to the meeting in Turkey regarding the unblocking of agricultural exports from our country through the Black Sea. We are indeed making significant efforts to restore the supply of food to the world market. And I am grateful to the United Nations and Turkey for their respective efforts. The success of this story is needed not only by our state, but also, without exaggeration, by the whole world. If we manage to remove the Russian threat to navigation in the Black Sea, it will remove the severity of the world food crisis. The Ukrainian delegation informed me that there is some progress. We will agree on the details with the UN Secretary General in the coming days.
