VMA 2024: Chappell Roan wins Best New Artist award and praises drag queens and LGBTs

The American singer and drag queen Chappell Roan 26, received the MTV Breakthrough Artist award VMA on Wednesday night (11). In her acceptance speech, she praised other drag artists and queer people.

“Thank you MTV, my team, my family, my friends. I dedicate this award to all drag queens, you have inspired me. I dedicate this award to trans people, gay people and my fans, who listen to me and share my joys and my fears,” she said.

The artist, who performed at the VMAs for the first time tonight, also sent a message to LGBT+ children, stating that she can understand them.

“To all the queer kids out there watching, I feel you because I am one of you. Never let anyone tell you that you can’t be exactly who you want to be,” Roan concluded.

Voting for the New Artist award was extended until Wednesday night.
