The president of Russia, Vladimir Putin, and Dilma Rousseff, former president of Brazil and now president of the BRICS bank, met before the Saint Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) this Thursday (6).
Putin is expected to hold bilateral meetings with several representatives from other countries attending the event, which takes place in Russia’s second largest city.
“I’m glad we have an opportunity to continue our dialogue. This year, the (BRICS) bank managed to do a lot under his leadership. For the first time, it has shown a significant net profit and is essentially recovering,” Putin told Rousseff.
In turn, the former Brazilian head of state stated: “I am very happy, it is a great honor for me to be here again, I thank you with all my heart for welcoming me here. I believe that now is an important moment as Russia presides over the BRICS.”
The Russian president is expected to speak at a plenary session of the St. Petersburg economic forum this Friday (7).
Putin also had meetings with Serbian President Milorad Dodik; the president of Bolivia, Luis Arce; and the president of Zimbabwe, Emmerson Mnangagwa.
