Co-founder of the Ethereum project Vitalik Buterin offered three options for addressing what he called the “systemic complexity” of the Proof-of-Stake (PoS) blockchain concept. Its goal is to reduce the number of signatures per slot to 8192.
As a result, the chain is forced to handle a huge number of signatures, especially when implementing the Single Slot Finalization (SSF) concept.
Buterin sees several potential ways to solve this problem:
- creation of decentralized pools for staking with an increase in the minimum deposit to launch a validator to 4096 ETH and with the same limit of participants. This will force individual counterparties to merge;
- distribution of stakers into “heavy” and “light”. In the first case, the threshold for launching the validator will be 4096 ETH, in the second there will be no threshold at all. But at the same time, only “heavy” stakers will receive the right to participate in the finals;
- rotational participation. In fact, the same committees that use other chains, but accountable. This method involves using a different set of validators for each slot.
According to Buterin, reducing the number of required signatures per slot will make Ethereum more accessible. This will simplify the work of technical specialists, including when developing blockchain clients.
