Visit of N. Androulakis at the Corfu hospital

The Corfu hospital was visited earlier by the President of PASOK-Movement for Change.

Nikos Androulakis spoke with the administrative and nursing staff about the problems they face due to the lack of medical and nursing staff in the Region’s health structures. Especially for islands with a lot of tourist traffic, such as Corfu, the problems intensify in the summer months.

“It is our priority to strengthen the public nature of health given that the Greeks are third pan-European in private health spending behind Lithuania and Bulgaria. And when we live in such an era of precision and impoverishment of the people, we must de-escalate inelastic spending of every family. Especially for health and education,” emphasized the President of PASOK-Movement for Change.

Mr. Androulakis thanked the Corfu MP of PASOK – Movement for Change Dimitris Biagis for his initiative to bring an Amendment to the Parliament, which was actually adopted by all the local MPs, implementing a request of many years. The prefecture’s health structures should become more attractive to medical and nursing staff with the inclusion of Corfu in Zone A of barren and problematic areas.

“It is particularly critical to give strong incentives for new human resources in the Health sector, which the island needs so much,” he said and added that the establishment of a meritocratic framework in the selection of hospital administrations in the long term, away from party choices, is a priority.
