The 7th Edition of Virada Feminina takes place in São Paulo this Saturday (25) and coincides with the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. The event aims to promote dialogue and actions against feminicide and in favor of gender equality.
It is carried out by councilor Dr. Sandra Tadeu (União Brasil) and the Instituto Virada Feminina. The parliamentarian, who is a pediatrician and public health doctor, has been working to defend the flag of women’s struggle in the city of São Paulo.
In an interview with CNN , Sandra explains that the action seeks to cover all sectors of society. “We will also talk about health and entrepreneurship, focusing on financial education. Women will only have their freedom when they have financial independence”, points out Sandra.
Sandra is the author of the law that establishes the campaign to combat sexual harassment on public transport and chairs the Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry (CPI) on Violence and Sexual Harassment Against Women.
Female Turn
The event, which will take place at São Paulo City Hall, from 10 am to 10 pm on Saturday (25), is free and open to the public. This year, the highlight is the fight against domestic violence and racism.
The councilor says that women will be able to undergo pap smears and tests for sexually transmitted diseases, such as HIV and syphilis, at the event.
Virada Feminina started in 2017 and expects to receive between 2000 and 2500 people in this edition. The event has an agenda of 13 panels, including debates, personal narratives, film screenings and musical performances.
The initiative reached other countries and today has actions in Italy, the United Arab Emirates and Argentina. The group covers issues involving domestic violence, gender equity and entrepreneurship, in order to give greater visibility to women from all social classes, but especially those living in communities.
