Video: With strong winds, two planes take off from Guarulhos in less than 3 hours

A strong wind caused two planes to go around in less than three hours at Guarulhos airport (SP) last Sunday (1st). The companies involved emphasize that the go-around – which occurs when the pilot gives up on landing for safety reasons – is a normal procedure and that there were no risks to the passengers.

The two attacks were captured by cameras from the SBGR Live channel.

The first aircraft to dodge was a Gol Boeing 737 Max 8, which was on flight 1403 from Brasília. The jet, registration PS-GRC, aborted the landing at around 12:50 p.m.

The camera shows the moment the plane approaches for landing and rocks in the wind. A few meters above sea level, the crew decides to climb again. The aircraft turns around and returns to the airport, where it lands at 1 pm.

In a statement, Gol reported that “the entire procedure followed safety protocols, the company’s number 1 value, and the aircraft landed normally.”

“The company emphasizes that a go-around is the act of discontinuing an approach procedure. It occurs when, after analysis, the captain verifies that the landing cannot continue to meet all safety requirements or by determination of the airport control tower. A go-around is a normal and safe maneuver that allows pilots to begin a new approach in more favorable runway conditions,” says the company.

The second plane to abort was a Latam Airbus A320, which was operating a flight from Navegantes to São Paulo. The aircraft, registration PR-TYK, aborted the landing at 3:24 p.m., returning and landing ten minutes later.

The company reports that the plane “had to make a go-around when approaching its destination” and, “then landed at its final destination in complete safety, within the scheduled time. All passengers disembarked normally.”

“LATAM reiterates that the go-around is a standard aviation safety procedure. Safety is an essential value for the company and all its decisions aim to ensure a safe operation.”

When contacted, the concessionaire GRU Airport stated that the airport “operated normally” on Sunday afternoon.
