Video: Head of US diplomacy appears playing guitar in support of Ukraine

United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken was seen this Tuesday (14) playing a guitar in a bar in Kiev to send a message to Ukraine: that the US and much of the world are fighting not just for Ukraine , but for the free world.

Blinken joined the band “19.99” on stage at Barman Dictat, in the Ukrainian capital. They played the song “Rockin' in the Free World” by Neil Young, a rock anthem released in 1989, shortly before the fall of the Berlin Wall.

“The United States is with you, much of the world is with you, and they are fighting not just for a free Ukraine, but for the free world. And the free world is with you too,” Blinken said before playing the song.

The diplomat watched most of the “19.99” performance before the vocalist introduced him as a “great friend of Ukraine”.

This song was played for the first time during a time when the Soviet Union (USSR) was experiencing several protests. After the end of the USSR, several countries, including Ukraine, gained independence.

Blinken's trip to Ukraine

Antony Blinken is the first US official to travel to Ukraine after the US Congress approved a US$61 billion military aid package last month.

During the international agenda, he pledged unwavering support from the US, at a time when Russia is intensifying its attacks.

The diplomat arrived in Kiev by train on Tuesday morning (13) in a surprise visit, which comes days after Russia launched a ground attack in the north of the Kharkiv region, opening a new battle front.
