According to the Environmental Military Police (PMA), last Monday (21), a local fishing guide found blood tracks and footprints of a large animal upon the absence of Jorge Aval in the ranch where he worked and called the authorities.
Security cameras in the area even recorded the jaguar circulating through the region. Look:
After searching, Jorge’s body was found on the morning of Tuesday (22), in a Mata Capão, with the aid of police, family and guides from the region.
The animal’s trails in the woods guided the team to Jorge. The body was being dragged by the jaguar for more than 50 meters when the agents arrived.
The same jaguar that killed Jorge returned to the place where the body was found and tried to hide it again last Tuesday (22).
A member of the search team reported on video the moment of tension: “We found the body and the time we came back to search, she was up there and attacked her colleague.” The jaguar only retreated after firearm shots scared it.
According to information, Jorge was attacked while trying to collect honey on a deck near the woods, where he worked as a caregiver of a private fisherman. Residents of the region described the attack as a sudden.
Criminal expertise confirmed, after analysis of the body and evidence, that the cause of death was the attack of the jaguar.
Authorities investigate the case, considering hypotheses such as food shortages, defensive behavior of the animal, reproductive period (which may increase the aggressiveness of males) or some involuntary action of the victim who may have triggered the attack.
