Victims of the rains in Baixada Fluminense receive 20 tons of food

The NGO Ação da Cidadania distributed around 20 tons of food this Wednesday (6th) to victims of the rains in Baixada Fluminense. The delivery is part of the first phase of aid for residents of regions directly affected by flooding, flooding or flooding. Since last Thursday (31), the state of Rio de Janeiro has suffered from heavy rains and more than 7,000 people have had to leave their homes.

In addition to food, Ação Cidadania also delivered 2,000 hygiene kits, clothes and mattresses to residents of affected municipalities, such as Nova Iguaçu and Mesquita.

In Costa Verde, donations are expected to arrive in the coming days. The cities of Angra dos Reis and Paraty were the most affected by the rains. In just five days, the National Center for Monitoring and Alerts for Natural Disasters (Cemaden) recorded rains exceeding 800 millimeters in Angra dos Reis and more than 600 millimeters in Paraty.

Petrópolis, a city in the mountainous region that was heavily affected by the rains in February and had more than 240 deaths, received 1,800 home appliances from the NGO.

All the collection and distribution work carried out by Ação Cidadania is part of the SOS Floods Brazil campaign, which started last year. The project has already taken more than 1,200 tons of donations to states affected by disasters, such as Minas Gerais, Bahia and Maranhão.
