Venezuela’s opposition says party founder was found dead and blames Maduro

The Venezuelan party Vontade Popular accused the government of Nicolás Maduro, a governor and a mayor, both Chavistas, for the alleged murder of opponent Edwin Santos, who, according to the acronym, was found dead this Friday morning (25) on a bridge .

According to the opposition party, Santos had been “kidnapped” by members of state security bodies last Wednesday (23) and taken to the headquarters of the Venezuelan Military Counterintelligence Directorate.

“Santos had been missing since the afternoon of Wednesday, October 23, when he was heading on his motorcycle to the community of El Piñal and was intercepted by state security officials, a fact confirmed by witnesses in the area,” says a statement published by the party.

The note also states that he obtained confirmation of the arrest from counterintelligence.

The statement highlights that in recent months Santos had been denouncing the “collapse” of the bridge that connects the states of Apure and Táchira: “It was on this same bridge where he was found dead this morning, a clear sign of retaliation against him and against democratic political activism.”

In the text published on its social networks, the acronym blames the Maduro government, the governor of the Venezuelan state of Apure, Wilmer Rodríguez, and the mayor of the municipality of Páez, José ‘Chema’ Romero, both Chavistas, in addition to the Intelligence and of the country’s counterintelligence due to the politician’s death.

Until the closing of this report, no authority had commented on Edwin’s whereabouts, nor confirmed his death.

THE CNN contacted the Venezuelan Ministry of Communication and the Public Ministry and is awaiting feedback.
