History was written in Venezuela, as the “largest orchestra in the world” gathered to perform Tchaikovsky’s Slavic March. Thousands of musicians gathered from the public program “El Sistema” (The System), founded in 1975 to make music education accessible to thousands of children from lower social classes.
Gustavo Dudamel, music director of the Paris Opera and the Los Angeles Philharmonic, is one of its most famous graduates.
“I confirm that this initiative was a success, congratulations,” said the person in charge of announcing the verdict during a ceremony at the headquarters of “El Sistema”. “You are officially amazing,” he added.
On November 14, about 12,000 musicians performed the 12-minute piece before the Guinness Book of World Records jury.
