Vanessa Lopes helps young people from the Amazon to impact the country with social media

Vanessa Lopes influencer and former participant of BBB24 , returned to social media gradually. Before attending the grand final of the competition and confirming her presence in a new reality show (“Túnel do Amor”), she embarked for the Amazon, in partnership with Sustainable Amazon Foundation (FAS), with the intention of learning about and getting involved in social projects – and understanding how it could expand debates about local biodiversity and culture.

Among the initiatives, Vanessa got to know the Forest Reporters , where he exchanged knowledge about the use of social networks. The FAS project has existed since 2014 and offers workshops on media communication techniques such as radio, TV and internet.

“The project is for young people to understand the tools they can access and be able to communicate their reality from their own point of view”, explained Bruna Martins, one of the participants in the initiative.

The influencer knows well how trends and different formats on social media can reach thousands of people. “I started without a professional camera, I had no one, it was a pandemic,” she explained during a chat with reporters. “I started doing dance, comedy… I would make videos of anything. Education, of course, is the most important of all. But, sometimes, we can follow another path and not know it.”

Previously, Repórteres da Floresta content production time was longer. Without access to digital tools, the only way to inform communities was through the printed newspaper.

“The teachers helped put together the itinerary and the information we gathered went to Manaus [para produzir o material impresso]. Only after some time did they return to the community”, explained Tainara Cruz, one of the reporters at the workshop.

Furthermore, news about the Amazon usually gains national coverage when there is a special report, often written by journalists from other states, with formats that do not speak to young people.

“When we bring a person like Vanessa to inform and teach us, I think everyone leaves with a different vision and content than what they are used to”, added Tainara. “We didn’t show the people who live here, what they do, how difficult the process of local crafts is until arriving in Manaus”.

Vanessa Lopes also visited projects and initiatives aimed at entrepreneurship and protecting the social, cultural and economic well-being of communities. The results of the exchanges can now be seen on the influencer and FAS's Instagram.
