Valerio Scanu: «I had a tumour. They took out half my lung.”

These are happy days for Valerio Scanuready at wedding with partner Luigi Calcara to whom he made the proposal, surprisingly, last Sunday. In the past of the 32-year-old singer, however, there is a drama that he has never talked about until now: in June 2020just after the end of the first lockdown, he underwent a very delicate surgery for a tumor and it was to him half a lung removed. Valerio has just revealed it on TV, guest of the program Today is another day: «I was badI had a lung problem, they took me away half a lung. The histological examination could not be done because it was very central, doing a needle aspiration could have done more damage ». Only after the operation was it possible to carry out the histological examination which revealed the nature of the “tumor”, as the doctors called it: a adenocarcinoma, “therefore malignant”about two centimeters.

Speaking with Serena Bortone, Valerio also confessed that in that very difficult period he was «alone». Because he hadn’t told anyone about the disease, not even his own parents: «I protected my family by minimizing itI didn’t want anyone to assist me. I wanted to be a hero.”. A few months later, in December 2020, his father Tonino died of Covid at the age of 64. Of his father, to whom he was very close, the singer spoke on TV with deep affection. Telling among other things the moment in which he confessed to his parents that he was gay. Papa Tonino, after having listened to his words, she burst into tears. But not because he was shocked by his son’s homosexuality: «She cried because she thought of how much I must have suffered in imagining their possible reaction to the news».

When he had a tumour, Valerio was alone because he wanted to protect his beloved parents. But also because Luigi Calcara, the engineer of Sicilian origin with whom she will marry, had not yet entered his life: «If I had a person like Luigi next to me at that time, I’m sure he would have been close to me». The two met shortly after. And it was alove at first sight blossomed thanks to social networks», as Scanu revealed on TV. Galeotto was a compliment from Calcara to a photo posted by the singer, who today says of the future husband: «I like its simplicity, ours is a very simple relationship».
