Val di Fassa in summer can be experienced on the new cabrio cable car

That time of the year has come, when everyone wants to go to the mountains. Those who are sporty, those who want to enjoy the fresh air, children, those who love going for walks, those who just want to relax, those who want to forget the noise of the city… In Val di Fassa the summer has begun bringing with it many initiatives and some novelties.

Val di Fassa in summer between walks, cable car rides and fly line rides

After the openings that brought the first tourists to high altitudes, between the green meadows of Ciampedie and the still whitewashed Pordoi, summer in Val di Fassa and in the Carezza area has a wonderful new feature: the convertible cable car in Tires, the only one in Italy that also allows you to travel on its roof and thus to admire the mountain massifs of Catinaccio and Latemar from a privileged perspective and with hair in the wind. The cable car travels a journey of four kilometers that takes about ten minutesclimbing from the 1,100 meters of the Tires station up to the 1,743 of the arrival at Malga Frommer.

And new it is too the Lunar Tour, an easy circular route on the plateau of the Terrace of the Dolomites on Sass Pordoi, at an altitude of 2,950 meters. A one-kilometre path developed on a slight slope, with an incredible 360-degree panorama, which even families… and the laziest ones can follow. On the other hand, those who love active mountains and difficult excursions can give it a try the new itinerary of Col Bel, accessible both from the crests of Buffaure (Pozza di Fassa) and from Ciampac (Alba di Canazei) starting from Sella Brunech (2,418 metres). Passing by Col Aut (2,490 metres), the highest point, you reach an exceptional panoramic point that makes you forget any (possible) effort.

And then there’s the now classic and much-loved fly line at Ciampedie: six minutes of descent in the woods, suspended among the trees. It’s called fly line Catinaccio Rosengarten and is the first aerial circuit in Italy: it is 1,100 meters long with a difference in altitude of 190, it can be covered at 12 kilometers per hour, with a spectacular view of Larséch, Monzoni, Sella and Pordoi. Everyone can try it, both adults and children (from 15 kg upwards).

Furthermore, starting from July, other innovations are planned, such as the new thematic itineraries for families at Ciampac, storytelling appointments The Princess of Dolèdawith a performance dedicated to some of the most beautiful legends of the Dolomites at the foot of the homonymous installation on Belvedere Col dei Rossi.

Art at high altitude: summer in Val di Fassa among land art works

In Buffaure, at an altitude of 2,000 metres, in the locality of Pozza di Fassa, an artistic project has come to life a few years ago which brought several installations to the top including a sculpture in the shape of an eagle with a 12-metre wingspan, a pack of five wolves, by the artist artist Francesco Franz Avancini, and some panoramic seats with particular shapes (giant thrones, maxi deckchairs and benches inspired by various animals). In a few weeks a large wooden labyrinth will also be inaugurated which will house a new work of art made with intertwined branches, adding to this “en plein air collection” of land art.

In Val di Fassa and in the Carezza area, the PanoramaPass, a multi-day pass which allows free access to all 32 Fassa-Carezza lifts and to move around in a sustainable way. The pass is free for children under the age of 8.
