Vaccini plan, what’s going on?

More than 640 thousand doses already administered, one of the highest averages in Europe, but still low numbers and many differences between regions. There are those who run out of doses available and complain of having had less than others who are instead behind on the vaccine plan. This is the case of the virtuous Campania and Lombardy on the other hand.

The Campania president did not fail to make himself heard Vincenzo De Luca: «Our region has reached the highest percentage in Italy in the administration of vaccines… The companies stop for lack of vaccines.

This is the result of a distribution made in an unequal way in recent days ». In other words, his colleagues from Tuscany and Veneto also said it. New shipments of vaccines arrive this week. Besides Pfizer, always over 470 thousand doses per week but with delays and direct deliveries to the regions, the first 47 thousand doses of the vaccine arrive Modern and then another 67,000 originally intended for the over 80 population.

However, the distribution should be different. The incoming doses will go first to regions that have already run out of stocks. When they have them available, the regions will be able to decide whether to use Moderna’s ones for the immunization of doctors, included in the first vaccine range, or whether to keep them for over eighty. The Moderna vaccine does not go directly to the administration centers, but is stored in the central depot at the military airport of Pratica di Mare and then sent to the regions.

Commissioner Arcuri confirms the objectives: 6 million vaccinated by March and most of the population by autumn. However, the green light also needs to be given to AstraZeneca and Johnson & Johnson vaccines, otherwise for Italy the vaccine doses available will cover only 30 million people.

The audience of the vaccinators. As soon as they are immunized, family doctors have given their willingness to administer the vaccines in their studies or vaccination centers. Their data and patient knowledge will also be used to prioritize vaccination when vaccines reach the non-hospital staff and non-Rsa population.

The Italian Federation of General Practitioners will make a platform available to general practitioners for order vaccinations to be shared with the regions. Doctors will especially be able to use vaccines other than Pfizer which do not need low temperatures for storage. There is a priority plan already organized, but there are several categories that ask to be included before others: teachers to secure the school, but also athletes in particular those who aim for the Tokyo games.
