V. Kikilias: We are upgrading the tourist product of Athens, strengthening the shops in the city center

The Minister of Tourism Vassilis Kikilias held a working meeting at the Ministry of Tourism, regarding the operation of the stores in the historic center of Athens.

The meeting was attended by the Deputy Regional Head of the Central Sector of Athens George Dimopoulos, the member of the Tourism Committee of the Athens Chamber of Commerce Giannis Michalopoulos and the President of Plaka tourism companies and member of the Tourism Committee of the Athens Chamber of Commerce Theodoros Vlaras.

During the meeting, Mr. Kikilias developed the strategy of strengthening the city break, in the framework of which a campaign will be carried out this year from the end of November to February.

He also informed about the recent agreements concluded with airlines, which increase by hundreds of thousands their available flights to Greek destinations and of course to Athens.

The representatives of the Athens Chamber of Commerce expressed their satisfaction for the strengthening of the tourism of the city through these agreements, while they announced their request to characterize the shops of Plaka as purely tourist. For his part, the Deputy Regional Head of the Central Sector of Athens stressed that in the context of upgrading the historic center of Athens, the Attica Region has given the opportunity to all stores of the historic center to be open every Sunday of the year. Mr. Kikilias promised to consider the request jointly with the competent Ministries.

In addition, the meeting discussed the issue of creating a homogeneous identity of the region, with emphasis on the marking of stores, which will aim to upgrade the tourist product offered.
