The Minister of Tourism Vassilis Kikilias had a telephone conversation this morning with the President of the Hotel Owners Association of Heraklion Nikos Chalkiadakis.
According to the President of the Union, 40% of the hotels in the area are already open and the traffic of visitors is considered very satisfactory to the extent that it is at the same or slightly better level than in 2019, which is due to the increased number of flights from abroad and the start of the season earlier than before. The declining pace of new detentions since the start of the war has been reversed and returned to a positive sign.
This positive news coincided with the announcement by the research company Airdna, which finds our country in the first place in Europe in increasing the demand for short-term rental accommodation, with a growth rate of 232% higher than in 2021.
The Minister of Tourism noted in this regard: “In recent days, the positive news regarding this season is increasing. However, the positive elements do not reassure us and we are fighting every day to face the challenges that arise. The energy crisis, but also the pandemic that has not disappeared, requires the coordination of the efforts of all those involved, in order to bring those resources that will support the public finances and the Greek family “.
