V-Day, the first vaccinated in Italy: «It is a day of hope. But the virus does not end today “

Vaccine Day has arrived. The symbolic day that marks the start of vaccination in Italy and throughout Europe aimed at guaranteeing immunity against Covid-19 is the event that everyone has been waiting for for months. A total of 9,750 doses of the vaccine produced by Pfizer / BioNTech will be administered on December 27 to doctors, nurses and health personnel from various regions of Italy for a demonstration vaccination, a prelude to that hoped-for mass vaccination that will officially start at the beginning of January and will see its climax next spring.

The subdivision of the doses, which arrived in Italy on Christmas Day and immediately stored at the Spallanzani Institute in Rome in special cold rooms at a temperature of -70 degrees centigrade, sees Lombardy in first place, to which 1620 vials have been assigned, followed by Emilia Romagna (975), Lazio (955), Piedmont (910) and Veneto (875). Smaller quantities were then also distributed in other Italian regions, which will participate at the same time as vaccine day.

It starts from Rome, where at the National Institute of Infectious Diseases Lazzaro Spallanzani, at 7.20 this morning there was the first vaccination in Italy: it’s about Claudia Alivernini, a 29-year-old nurse who works in the hospital, but has also cared for many elderly people at home in recent months. “Vaccinating is an act of love and responsibility towards the community,” he had declared in recent days about this opportunity. “I proudly represent all the health workers who, like me, have been at the forefront of this pandemic.”

Reached by Vanity Fair at the exit of the hospital after the administration of the vaccine, Claudia Alivernini she said she was very excited to have been the first of this vaccination campaign. “The vaccine did very well. It is essential for all of us to vaccinate and continue to use precautions, because the virus will continue to exist, it does not end today“. I then add: «Today is a day of hope. We are finally trying to get out of this terrible battle ».

Although V-Day officially begins at 9, together with Claudia Alivernini they have already received the first doses of the anti-Covid vaccine in the early morning. Maria Rosaria Capobianchi and the health and social worker Omar altobelli. A decision taken in order to be able to operate in complete safety and avoid hypothetical inconveniences due to any demonstrations called by no vax.
